Pharmacist Feature: Katie Owen (PGY-2 Transplant Pharmacy Resident)

(A little side note: Katie is one of my very best friends and we went to pharmacy school together - she is kind, absolutely hilarious, and one of the smartest people I know)

Pharmacy School: Northeastern University

Current Position: PGY2 Solid Organ Transplant Pharmacy Resident at The Ohio State

University Wexner Medical Center - Large Academic Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio

Typical Day:

6am - Coffee

6:15am-8:45am - work up patients/call nursing with emergency issues

9am-11am - round with surgeons and NPs on whichever organ service I’m on 11am-12pm - topic discussions/journal clubs

Favorite Part: “So much to learn and teach. Transplant patients require a lot of follow up but it’s great to see people doing well knowing you helped set them up for success.”

Least Favorite Part: “Can leave little time for sleep - rounding schedule is based on surgeons schedule (anywhere between 6am and 1pm)”

Prior Experience: PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at BIDMC in Boston

“Transplant is a small world with a lot of really great people! Ask a transplant pharmacist to shadow 😎”
