Pharmacist Feature: Amanda Kuhn (PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident)
Pharmacy School: North Dakota State University
Current Position: PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident at Avera McKennan Hospital
Typical Day: “Depending on the learning experience, it includes working up patients to discuss with the hospitalist; attending various clinical, departmental, and operations team meetings; meeting with patients to discuss heart failure medications (in a heart failure clinic); educating patients on blood thinners (warfarin, DOACs, Lovenox); and working on various residency projects and preparing for topic discussions.”
Favorite Part: “Getting to work with so many health care providers in a very close setting - the providers greatly value the pharmacists and our opinions on medication management!”
Least Favorite Part: “Feeling as though sometimes we aren't necessarily fixing the root cause/problem, but only putting a band-aid on it with patients who are hospitalized.”
Prior Experience: “Working in several different pharmacy settings including retail, closed-door, and long-term care. Being involved in numerous pharmacy and non-pharmacy organizations throughout undergrad and pharmacy school.”
“I love group fitness classes - yoga sculpt, barre, and HIIT are some of my favorite! They are a great way to destress and improve my overall well-being.”
